What We Believe
At the heart of what we believe is the good news about who Jesus is and what he has done for us.
As Christians we believe in God who is Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that God has revealed himself fully in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for our sins, rose again, ascended to heaven and promised to return as King and Judge of all. We believe that by faith in Jesus Christ we can be forgiven and our relationship with God can be right again, giving us peace, purpose, and the sure hope of life forever in God's Kingdom. We believe that the Holy Spirit gives us new life and helps us to live for Jesus and bear witness to him.
We believe in the supreme authority of the Bible as God’s Word to us. With the help of the Holy Spirit we meet Jesus in His Word and get to know Him and the life he calls us to live as we follow Him.
As part of the Church of England we hold to the foundations laid out in the 39 Articles and the various ancient Christian Creeds. We are affiliated with the Church of England Evangelical Council: CEEC Basis of Faith.
Our church family is made up of people from many different church backgrounds and none, united together, not in any one denomination, but in Christ.
One area where we hold a diversity of views is with regards to God's pattern for the roles that men and women should have in the Church. Though united in our commitment to equality, and to enabling all to have opportunities to use their gifts to serve God, there are different theological convictions on whether the headship roles of bishop and Rector should be reserved for qualified men - serving under Christ. With this in mind our PCC has passed a Resolution under the House of Bishops Declaration on the Ministry of Bishops and Priests. For more information see the theological statement below:
